Consider the whole facepiece
The 3M 6000 Series full-face mask is a different purchasing proposition from a half mask. It combines a respiratory facepiece with a large lens, so visibility, fit and compatibility with other equipment all become part of the decision. This article reviews manufacturer specifications and ordering considerations rather than results from an independent wear test.
What the specification offers
3M lists a soft elastomeric facepiece, four-strap suspension and a broad polycarbonate lens. It states that the lens meets EN166:B performance requirements. A Cool Flow valve is intended to help release exhaled heat and moisture. These are useful design features to compare, although the lens rating still needs to suit the actual eye and face hazards in the workplace.
Avoid an incomplete order
The Birchward listing is for the mask without filters. Its respiratory protection depends on the correct approved filter combination, selected for the contaminant and exposure. Check the complete part numbers rather than assuming a filter suitable for another 3M mask is automatically appropriate here. Also consider how any prescription eyewear will be accommodated without interfering with the seal.
Our assessment
This is a useful full-face model to consider when your assessment calls for this type of equipment and an approved configuration can be specified. Compare the complete cost: facepiece, filters, any required accessories and replacement parts. Fit testing must establish suitability for the individual wearer. Before purchasing, confirm that the selected size and setup can be worn with the rest of the required PPE.
