JSP Force 8 facepiece on a maintenance workshop bench — illustrative workplace scene

JSP Force 8 review: a reusable half mask with filter flexibility

Start with the complete system

The JSP Force 8 gives buyers a reusable facepiece around which to build a respiratory protection setup. The key distinction in the Birchward inventory is that this listing is supplied without filters. This review assesses the published design and buying considerations; it does not report a wearer trial.

Useful design choices

JSP describes a thermoplastic rubber facepiece, an adjustable four-point suspension and a Typhoon exhalation valve. Its PressToCheck filter range adds a convenient way to check the seal after putting the mask on. That feature belongs to the compatible filter setup: ordering the bare facepiece alone does not provide a ready-to-use PressToCheck system.

What needs attention

There are several Force 8 filter options, and their names matter. A particulate filter and a combined gas-and-particulate filter address different requirements. Match the exact filter to the assessed hazard and check JSP compatibility information rather than choosing by appearance. Allow for replacement filters, inspection, cleaning and storage when comparing the total purchase with disposable masks.

Our assessment

The Force 8 is worth shortlisting for a workplace that can manage a reusable mask and its consumables consistently. The most useful buying step is to specify the facepiece size and filter part number together. A seal check is not a substitute for a competent face-fit test. Tight-fitting RPE must fit the individual wearer; stubble and beards can prevent an effective seal.
